Kinder to grade 2 (LOTE Volume 1) - Vocab Building
In the formative years we are teaching mostly through game play, songs and stories (with new optional online video story time).
Our teaching guides are written to be able to be used by:
Teaching areas focus on signs that are mostly mimicry and thus easy to remember, and in topics that are of interest to this age group (who for example do not care about formal greetings and the weather contrary to some academics idea of what should be taught at these stages)
We learn about animals, and family; places around the school, inside and outside play, fruit for snack time; and special events like Easter, Christmas and Birthdays
Grade 3 to 4 (LOTE Volume 2) - Bringing concepts together
Our students are a little older now so we can use some reading in our teaching methods and more advanced concepts as we teach them Auslan.
We will learn to fingerspell, measurements and put that into practice through cooking, do mathematics in Auslan; and describe in detail animals and people in detail. We look at some linguistic concepts to provide a deeper understanding of the language, and we look at the Deaf community and culture.
Grade 5 and 6 (LOTE Volume 3) - Bringing it all together
The theory really kicks in now, looking far more deeply into linguistics concepts and grammar. Why is that the sign for that?
These years each contain major and minor projects where students work individually or in groups to prepare detailed presentations based around describing animals and people. Through out the year they also learn to give more detailed descriptions of the day, date, and weather. Introduce people to each other and other social chit chat.
Years 7 and 8 (LOTE Volume 2) - Bringing concepts together
Our LOTE Volumes are written to adapt to older or younger learners. When implementing Volume 2 within High School the assumption is no prior learning, and incorporates much of the LOTE 1 vocab into the LOTE sections.
We will learn to fingerspell, measurements and put that into practice through cooking, do mathematics in Auslan; and describe in detail animals and people in detail. We look at some linguistic concepts to provide a deeper understanding of the language, and we look at the Deaf community and culture.
Years 9 and 10 (LOTE Volume 3) - Bringing it all together
The theory really kicks in now, looking far more deeply into linguistics concepts and grammar. Why is that the sign for that?
These years each contain major and minor projects where students work individually or in groups to prepare detailed presentations based around describing animals and people. Through out the year they also learn to give more detailed descriptions of the day, date, and weather. Introduce people to each other and other social chit chat.
